About Circula-TEX

A united effort for textile sustainability

about

Circula-TEX is a collaborative project supporting the transition to a more circular textile industry.

The main objective of Circula-TEX is to actively support the textile sector’s transition to circularity by guiding the sustainable and harmonised implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes across Europe.

about

Focus Areas

The project focuses on several key areas:

  • Promoting eco-design and product traceability
  • Improving separate collection, sorting, and recycling
  • Developing a smart labelling system to track textiles from production to post-consumer use
  • Comparing the economic and environmental impact of EPR models and testing business models for producer responsibility organisations (PROs)

Circula-TEX will also conduct case studies and provide training sessions to help stakeholders apply the project’s outcomes in real-world settings.

Objectives

Circula-TEX supports the EU's Sustainable and Circular Textiles Strategy by redesigning textile value chains with a circular approach. The project will identify gaps in the sector, evaluate the effectiveness of EPR schemes, and develop recommendations for improving recycling and reuse through eco-design and enhanced material identification. An innovative labeling system in line with the Digital Product Passport, will be developed. To implement this ambitious goal, Circula-TEX work will be based on the following pillars:

Stakeholder engagement and co-creation approach

Analysis of the gaps and needs of the textile value chain. Identification of potential solutions

Harmonised EPR schemes:

Comparison between different national ecosystems and maturity of EPR schemes

Supply chain

transformation towards a circular textile value chain

Recommendations

Enhance the reuse and recycling of textiles by addressing technological, environmental, economic, legal and social aspects
